In The First Pair, Christyna Pourhabib sits down with sneaker enthusiasts as they remember the first pair of sneakers that made them feel fly. “We know the moguls that have shaped the culture of sneakers. I wanted to know the stories of people influenced by that culture––people with an astounding collection of sneakers and others that turned their love into a business or passed that love down to a younger generation. I stopped strangers on the street and collected original images from photographers in Los Angeles and New York. Everything was very organic.”

The First Pair is an honest and intimate compilation of images and stories that highlight themes of identity and place, lack of access, desire, and childhood nostalgia.
